A collectible sticker is a sticker, printed or digital, that people keep for the collection rather than for decoration: it belongs to a series, has its own spot in a set and often carries its own number. A digital collectible sticker adds one more layer, a registry record that lets you find each individual piece and tell it apart from every other.

From sticker albums to digital collections

Sticker albums have been around for generations. You buy a pack, open it, fill an empty slot, and trade your duplicates with friends. The fun is in slowly completing the pages and finally tracking down the one sticker you are missing.

Digital collectible stickers follow the same logic. Your album becomes a personal collection inside an account, and the empty slots are the pieces of a series you don't have yet. A few things change for the better: a digital sticker doesn't fade or tear, it won't get lost when you move house, and every piece comes with a detailed information card.

What a collectible sticker is made of

Whether it's paper or digital, a good collectible sticker usually has these parts:

  • Artwork. The character or design you actually see.
  • Series. The release it belongs to. A series sets the overall style and the range of variants.
  • Attributes. The traits that distinguish stickers within a series: character, theme, group, level.
  • Number. On paper, the slot number in the album. In a digital collection, a unique serial number for that exact piece.
  • Record. Digital only: an entry in a registry that stores the number, attributes and history of the piece.

The number and the record are what turn a digital picture into a collectible. Our guide to collectible serial numbers explains why the serial matters so much.

Collectible stickers vs. messaging-app stickers

These days most people hear "sticker" and think of the images they send in chats. That is a completely different thing.

A chat sticker is a communication tool. A collectible sticker is an item with a place in a series and a history of its own.

Series, sets and variants

Collecting almost always revolves around series. A series is a release with a shared style and shared rules. Inside a series you may find:

  • groups or teams, for example two opposing sides that each sticker belongs to;
  • design variants, the same character drawn in different versions;
  • levels, steps a sticker can move up through within the collection's mechanics.

Series make a collection readable: you can see at a glance what you have and what is missing. For more on how series are built, read how collectible series work.

How people get collectible stickers

There are only a few routes, and they look much the same on paper and online.

  1. With a purchase. It used to be a pack at the newsstand or an insert in a cereal box. Today it is often a QR code on the product that drops a sticker into your digital collection.
  2. As a gift. A friend gives you a sticker you don't have yet.
  3. Within a community. Collectors find each other and help one another complete sets.

Picture this: Sam buys a bag of snacks and spots a QR code on the back. He scans it, signs in, and a new sticker with its own serial number appears in his collection. A week later his sister gifts him a duplicate she doesn't need, and now he has one more piece of the series.

How Crypto Sticker's stickers work

Crypto Sticker offers digital collectible stickers whose records are kept in the registry of cryptosticker.org.

The key building blocks:

  • Serial number and passport. Every sticker has a unique number and a public page, its digital passport. The passport confirms the record exists in the registry, but on its own it does not prove ownership; you see your stickers in your personal collection.
  • Series. Genesis, Next and Evolution. You can compare them in the collections section.
  • Factions. Each sticker belongs to Solars (the sun) or Hearts (the heart).
  • Levels. From I to XXIV. A pair of two stickers from the same series and the same level, one Solars and one Hearts, held by the same member, moves up to the next level. See levels for the details.

You can get a sticker by scanning a Cryptoscope QR code on a partner's product, as a gift from another member, or on the Marketplace inside the site.

Things to keep in mind

  • The official website is cryptosticker.org. Check the address bar before you sign in.
  • Don't share a QR code or a one-time link before it has been activated: someone else could use it. Once activated, the link stops working.
  • A saved image of a sticker is just a picture. The piece itself stays where the registry lists it.
  • Collecting is about curiosity and enjoyment, not about making money.
